p & z
P & Z is an independent publication created and designed in collaboration with LAAMS, a Lower East Side streetwear and art space known for cultivating emerging creative voices across New York City and beyond. LAAMS operates at the intersection of fashion, art, and community, functioning not only as a retail environment but as a cultural hub for young creatives.
P & Z was developed to spotlight artists whose work has been exhibited within LAAMS. The publication serves as both archival documentation and cultural amplification, capturing each artist’s background, creative process, selected works, and biography in a format that feels intimate yet collectible.
I was the first artist invited to collaborate with LAAMS on this publication, setting the foundation for what would become an ongoing series highlighting emerging talent. The zine includes curated imagery, written narratives, and an 11 x 17 art print designed as a standalone collectible insert, elevating the piece from editorial to art object.
The publication was printed using a risograph printer, a unique stencil-based duplicating process that blends the tactile quality of screen printing with the efficiency of digital reproduction. Unlike traditional digital printing, risograph ink sits on top of the paper rather than being absorbed into it, creating highly saturated, vibrant color fields with a rich texture. The process embraces unpredictability, giving each copy a handcrafted quality while still allowing for small-batch production. This aligned intentionally with the ethos of both LAAMS and the featured artists: raw and expressive.
The first edition sold over 50 copies, demonstrating both audience engagement and demand within the LAAMS creative community.
P & Z is not simply a zine. It is a printed extension of a cultural space, a document of emerging voices, and a tactile artifact that preserves a moment in New York’s independent art scene.
