HIDDEN

HIDDEN is an independent zine I created to spotlight critical global stories alongside underreported narratives that often receive limited mainstream attention. Inspired by the way contemporary algorithms curate information based on user behavior, the publication responds to the growing risk of audiences being confined to narrow or repetitive news perspectives.

Published through LAAMS NYC in limited edition quantities, HIDDEN is structured to cover major global developments within two-month intervals throughout the year. This cadence allows the publication to remain timely while still providing the thoughtful curation and considered design that a print format demands.

The editorial content featured in HIDDEN is fully sourced and credited. I hold deep respect and admiration for the journalists and photographers whose work appears throughout the publication, and the project was approached with careful attention to attribution and integrity. My role centered on editorial design, curation, and the visual storytelling framework that brings these important voices into a cohesive printed format.

Driven by a strong passion for editorial design, I developed HIDDEN as a tactile print experience that documents events unfolding in real time. Through deliberate typography, pacing, and layout decisions, the zine encourages readers to slow down and engage more thoughtfully with complex global issues. The physical format intentionally contrasts the fast, algorithm-driven nature of digital feeds, reinforcing the value of intentional reading and discovery.

The central problem HIDDEN addresses is information fragmentation caused by algorithmic filtering, which can limit exposure to diverse perspectives and underreported stories. My design approach counters this by creating a structured yet immersive reading experience that surfaces overlooked narratives and guides readers through them with clarity and visual hierarchy. By making these stories more accessible and engaging in print form, HIDDEN aims to support more informed, connected, and critically aware audiences.
